Video Arraignment System Upgrade and Expansion
The First Judicial
District of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania currently operates
a multi-agency, Video Arraignment system that uses teleconferencing
equipment for the arrest-to-arraignment process. The system
enables face-to-face hearings between court personnel and detainees
located at remote police districts and prison locations. Benefits
of Video Arraignment include faster arrest-to-arraignment processing
by eliminating the need to transport detainees to the courthouse.
Due to the successful implementation of the system seven years
ago, the court system is expanding video arraignment to new sites
and also upgrading the system with current technology. Alta
provided project management services from the initial development,
through the design, procurement, and implementation phases of the
project. This project, valued at approximately $700,000, continues
a management consulting relationship that began over eight years
ago with the development of Criminal Justice Center (CJC)
and the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS).
